Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter for greasing of baking dish
  • 1 izzio San Francisco Style Sourdough Batard, cubed (preferably day-old)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup pecans (optional)

Instructions

  • Step 01
    Grease a 9x13 baking dish with unsalted butter.
  • Step 02
    In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and salt.
  • Step 03
    Dip each piece of bread into egg mixture and shingle into greased baking dish until full. Drizzle any remaining custard over bread slices, then cover with plastic wrap and place in fridge overnight.
  • Step 04
    Top with pecans if using and bake for 50-60 minutes at 350 degrees. Tent with foil if pecans start to brown too quickly. Let stand for 10 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve.
